My best friend, her granddaughter all live in California. We met up in Boston with my cousin and her son who live in Illinois for an eight day road trip through New England and Canada along with a resort stay in Craftsbury Vermont. This trip I added 7 states to my list – #34 – 40.

After we picked up the rental car and got settled we spent a few hours touring Boston and visited the waterfront, Harvard, and Beacon Hill among others. We then took to the road and spent the night in Providence, Rhode Island. We toured Providence the next day taking in Brown University. We left at approximately 1:00pm and embarked on the longest leg of the trip. We drove from Providence to Gillette Castle State Park in Connecticut, toured the castle and grounds and then headed to New Haven where we toured Yale University. We then ventured on to New York – visiting Harlem, Columbia University, Central Park, MOMA, and 5th Avenue. We then ventured across the George Washington Bridge into New Jersey.

By this time is was late into the evening and we perched in the Palisades Interstate Park and gazed at Manhattan across the water. We were exhausted but we were nowhere finished. Our home away from home was in Craftsbury Vermont. We hit the road once again and finally arrived at our destination around 6am the next morning.

We stayed a very cute house in Craftsbury Commons. Everyone had their own bedroom and ensuite. This was our home base that we ventured from each day. We went grocery shopping, and hung out on the property and the surrounding town. We visited the town country store and ate creemees. Yum. Our first adventure took us to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, only a little over 2 hours away. We visited the city center and the old port. After a fun day we headed back to the house.

Our next day trip included a trip to New Hampshire. We stopped off in Bethlehem and snapped a picture in the city center in front of a fabulous mural. One of the city officials saw us and put our picture on the town’s instagram account. We were insta famous for a hot minute. We then visited the river front an dipped our feet in the water. We finished our day by visiting Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves. It was a fun adventure especially for the teens.

Our second to last day was a day trip to Portland, Maine. It was really cool to get to see both sides of the USA. We live on the furthest point west, and we got look out on the furthest point east. Of course we also ate lobster!

Our last day we spent at Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks. We toured the maple farm and got to see how maple is produced, played with the goats, and sampled the syrup and had more creemees. We even got to meet the owner of the farm.

I’m not sure I’m down to group road trips again but this was a fun adventure.
